How to Know Jesus Christ
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
Did you know there is a battle for your soul? The battle is spiritual and it touches every area of your life. All of us are born into sin, we can’t help that part, but we can choose to move from sin and death to peace with God through His Son Jesus Christ.
Without Christ we have no hope. Oh, you can be a good person, and probably have a good decent life. But a good life and good works will not be enough to get you into heaven. Nothing that we do in our natural state of sinfulness will ever be good enough to please God in order to gain eternal life. If that were even possible then the death of Christ on the cross would be in vain and useless. But that is not the case.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5).
But Christ did not die on the cross in vain. He came to earth on a rescue mission, to save us from the power of sin. Sin has affected our entire being. We are born in sin and without Christ we will die in sin. And if we die in our sin the only thing left for us is what the Bible calls the second death, separated from God for all of eternity in a place called hell.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death (Revelation 20:14).
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
But God has a better way, and His way is by faith alone in Christ through His mercy and grace alone–the unmerited favor of God.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Ephesians 2:8-9).
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
God loves the people of the world collectively and individually and His love for us was demonstrated when He gave His only Son to die for us on the cross as the sin-bearer.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.(John 3:16-17).
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Cor.5:21).
We are saved from sin by grace alone through faith alone.
To be saved from sin requires only faith on our part. We cannot be saved through attending church, receiving the communion wafer, through baptism, or walking up front to meet a preacher, priest, or minister. Church rituals are just that, they will not save anyone from anything.
Salvation does come when we place our faith in Christ. What that means is that we simply trust in His name and His power to save from sin–the Scriptures say, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Once we come to a realization that we are sinners, lost and separated from God, and that our only hope is to be found in Christ, we simply believe that He will do what He says He will do–save us from the power of sin. That is faith and faith alone in Christ. We go back to the basics and believe the gospel which is this:
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. ( 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Once we understand that Christ died for us and His death, burial, and resurrection procured our salvation, then we move to faith. The Word of God commands that we repent and believe the gospel (Matt.4:17; Lk.13:3; Acts 2:38; 3:19).
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10).
Salvation is a free gift from God but we must receive it by faith, we are not born with it, church ritual can’t give it to us, and we cannot earn it. It’s through faith and faith alone. The next step is to believe the gospel, that Christ died to forgive and cleanse us from sin.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Once we receive the gift of salvation, then God will grant the assurance of our salvation.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:11-13).
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
The Next Step in Your New Life in Christ
Once you are saved from sin the next step is to grow in your faith. Read the Bible, pray, and follow Christ and the leading of the Holy Spirit. We live in dangerous times both physically and spiritually. Not every church out there has your best interest at heart. There are many “wolves in sheep’s clothing” just waiting to prey upon the new Christians, andthosewho are older in the faith who should know better by now.
Seek the Lord for a fellowship of believers, and this is where you need to be careful. If they follow the Bible, and that is the rule of faith, and they worship and glorify Christ, that is fine. But if they give you a list of rules, such as obedience to the group, or the group leader, or how much money you must give to be in right standing with them, or any other legalistic requirements that you are obligated to follow, run quickly out the door and find another church.
Don’t get involved with any “Word Faith” groups or Hebrew Roots groups because they will spoil you will a false faith and legalism.{1} As Christians we are free in Christ and are not obligated to keep the Old Testament laws; and faith is not a magic force to be manipulated for material gain as some “Word Faith” groups believe. That is false doctrine and spiritually dangerous because it can lead to spiritism or traffic with spirits in order to acquire power to do “miracles.”
Christ is our only righteousness, and the only righteousness we need.
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference.” (Romans 3:21-22). Christ is the righteousness of the law for us.
Be free in Christ:
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Cor. 3:17).
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1).

1. Note: Hebrew Roots is distinguished from Messianic Christianity. The former, Hebrew Roots, attempts to attain righteousness with God through keeping Torah, the Law of God. Messianic Christianity understands that our righteousness comes only from the Messiah, Jesus Christ, and only seeks to demonstrate the relationship between the ancient Jewish faith and Christianity. As related above, per Romans 3:21-22, no one is justified by the works of the Law, Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness. Salvation comes through Christ by faith for both Jew and Gentile.
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin (Romans 3:20).
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him (Romans 10:12).
