THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT THE END TIMES by Jeff Wingo
November 10, 2015
The one question I hear most frequently is this: “When will the Antichrist appear.” Sincere people are looking for a sincere answer. My answer to their question is this: ” The Antichrist will appear once three things happen, do you know what those three things are?” In all truth, with all of my heart I am not trying to trick them, appear self-righteous, or smug.
My question has a motive which is this: As Christians seeking a biblical answer we must know what Jesus and the Apostles said on the matter. I am nothing compared to Christ, and I am nobody compared to the Apostles. Their answers are the only things that really matter. The question we should ask is this: “What did Jesus and the Apostles say on the matter?” That is the heart of all knowledge for all things pertaining to life and godliness, and especially the End Times.
Jesus warned us about false prophets. He knew they would take His word and twist it like a nose of wax to gain a following. Some of the contorted things I read online just make me ill when I realize that new Christians may read such nonsense. So the key is to get back to biblical study coupled with sincere prayer for understanding and discernment.
Lets get back to the biblical signs we should be looking for.
Paul said there are three things we must know about the End of Days. The first sign we should watch for will be a very significant increase in wickedness and evil. Obviously, wickedness and evil is always among us, but this will be an exponential rise in evil.
-
2 Timothy 3:1-5: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
- 2 Timothy 3:13: But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
Currently, sin is restrained by the merciful power of God. That is God’s general grace to the world. It is because He does restrain sin and evil, both human and non-human (fallen angels and demons), that we are able to live a somewhat orderly life. It is human sin, and agitation by fallen spiritual beings, that bring chaos such as murder, war, rape, etc. Without the grace of God we would not be able to live life at all. Normal life would be entirely impossible. There would be no real life, joy, or beauty, at all in the world.
Titus 2:11-12: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men; Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ..
But, thank the Lord He does grant general grace, and an opportunity for salvation, which is open to all, so that we can have and enjoy life, love, raise families, and produce good things that benefit the human family.
Nevertheless, according to Paul the Lord has a limit on that kind of grace.
The New American Standard Bible brings out even more meaning from the verse:
To be plain, Paul is telling the Thessalonians that the Antichrist is currently being restrained, and will only be revealed “in his time.” In other words, the Antichrist, the Man of Sin, is currently being held in check by a great force. In verse seven Paul says “only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.”
Who is doing the restraining? The only being in the universe capable of restraining evil of this magnitude is God, the Holy Spirit. Some teachers claim the restraining influence is the Archangel Michael, or human government, or the church. However, human governments are incapable of restraining themselves. In fact, most governments lean toward tyranny and evil, and more so with progress of time.
While some Christians may disagree with me on this, the church is losing its cultural influence as well; so it is incapable of restraining evil of the magnitude associated with Antichrist. This is caused mainly by capitulation to the world system and false doctrine. But even more, the church isn’t meant to be the restrainer of Antichrist. During the Tribulation Christians will face the wicked onslaught of the Beast. During that period of time, millions of Bible believing Christians will be martyred because the spirit of antichrist will fully manifest, working unhindered and unrestrained. While things may look bad right now, we haven’t seen anything yet.
Indeed, most of the Christian church is ill prepared to face the tsunami of evil about to breakout in the world.
The church is losing its influence because its ability to work in the world as “salt” and “light” is watered down and dimmed by powerful cultural influences. Because church leadership has largely abandoned God they are now being influenced and manipulated from behind the scenes by incredibly evil fallen beings: principalities and powers, rulers of the darkness of this kosmos, or world system, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).
Once solid denominations have become nothing more than hotbeds of sin, and reflections of culture; how could they possibly influence the world for Christ? Indeed, they have recreated Christ in their own fleshly image, a false Christ served by false prophets. It is no wonder then, that when the biblical Jesus Christ spoke of the last days Laodicean church He said He would “spew them out of His mouth” (Revelation 3:16). They make Him sick.
Christ went to the cross to redeem sinners, and to deliver helpless people from the power of sin and death. But the Laodicean church presents a Jesus who loves the sinner and approves of their sin with a wink and a nod. As Paul wrote, “What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid” (Romans 6:15).
One of the greatest dangers to the Christian church will not come from a morally bankrupt culture however. The greatest danger to the church is coming right now through false teachers and prophets who claim to be Apostles, but are not. Many of these false apostles teach that they will have greater power than Paul, Peter, or James, the original apostles of the biblical Christ. I am not surprised when I see that some of these “apostles” have an anointing to do certain works of power.
I saw a video not long ago in which a “prophetess” laid hands on a young man who was kneeling at an altar of prayer. The young man began to twist and writhe, and scream in such a way that reminded me of someone demon possessed. The truth of the matter is that he was possessed: he received an impartation from a false apostle anointed by a familiar spirit.
I have dealt firsthand with people possessed by evil entities. Its ugly, and dangerous. This is now coming into the church administered by false apostles “anointed” with power by familiar spirits. And undiscerning Christians are yielding to this satanic impartation of evil!
These are the false prophets and false Christs we were warned about. The word Christ means anointed or anointed one. So when Jesus called them false Christs, He wasn’t necessarily talking about someone claiming to be Christ (although they come in His name). What He meant was that a false Christ will have a pseudo or false anointing that mimics the Holy Spirit, thus enabling them to be a “false Christ;” a false anointed one. This is accomplished by spiritual power administered through an ob, or familiar spirit; in other words, a fallen angel or demon.
If the church falls for a false anointing administered through a false prophet or apostle, how will Christians discern the signs of the times when fallen angels masquerading as aliens suddenly appear in the skies above?
John the Revelator said that one day the Dragon (Satan) and his fallen angels will be cast out from the heavens to Earth (Rev. 12:9) . Once that event occurs, how will the church cope with the full manifestation of supernatural evil when today, she cannot discern a false prophet empowered by a familiar spirit in her midst?
Just something to consider.
Part Two will be coming soon!
